Introducing...

Here you go.  The new and improved Lowder family!

From left to right: Jeff, Becca, Samantha, Lynn/Mom, Melissa, Kent/Dad, Arturo, Jenny, Anthony, Tye, Sandi, and Kyle.  BOOM.  Missing Rose, of course.

First, this is Melissa.  She is spunky and beautiful and lovely and sixteen.

Next, Arturo.  He is going to be a professional base-basket-foot-ball star, and he is ten.

This is Samantha, age eight.  She is an artist, and I need to get more frames so I can decorate our house with her beautiful work.

Lastly, this is Anthony, and anyone who has met this five year old knows this picture sums up most of his personality.

We are absolutely blessed!  If you're the praying type, please feel free to print out these photos so you can pray for each of these kids by name.  And my parents.  Pray for them too.  Fruits of the spirit for all of us.

All our love!

The Best Day Ever

People.  I am so excited to finally post this.  This is news a lifetime in the making.

Here we go.  Buckle your seatbelts!

In August of 2010, my parents shared with my older brother (Kyle), younger sister (Jenny), husband (Jeff), and me that they had prayerfully begun the process to adopt.  Oh, the excitement.  Another brother or sister!  With that, a shared smile pulled at Dad’s eyes and tugged on the corner of Mom’s mouth.  Yes!  Definitely one.  And definitely more.  Two.  Maybe three.

Dear God in Heaven.

By January 2011, Mom and Dad had encountered enough red tape to mend a thousand ripped pages and had applied for dozens of children.  Sets of two, sets of three.  Red, yellow, black, and white.  With every dead lead, cold winter air set deeper into our chilled bones.  We got “close” on a few groups.  What does “close” mean, anyway?  We were close enough to call them by name, imagine them in their rooms.  Close enough to be genuinely excited and nervous.  But never close enough to stretch out our arms and see them at the edge of our fingertips.  No, maybe we were never that close at all.  We stuck close, though.  Our marrow remained warm.  We depended on the Lord and trusted that He would complete our family as only He knew how.

“Close” finally came.  One day in the spring, the phone rang, and Jeff and I found ourselves settling to the floor on our bellies, staring at the phone lying between us on the carpet.  My mom’s voice shook with the joy and severity of the moment.

We read their file.  They’re extraordinary.  We want them to be ours.
Our eyes met in elation! fear! joy! then fell back to the phone.  So many questions.  What are their names?
Rosario.  Melissa.
Beautiful!  Two girls! How o—
And Arturo.  Samantha.
Wha—
And Anthony.

elation! fear! joy! Five.  Our five, as we came to call them in the coming days.  Our beautiful, long-awaited five.

We met in the height of the summer, exchanged visits.  Laughed.  Cried.  Slept.  Stayed up too late.  And then, when August came, so did they.  In the end (not that we’re anywhere close to the end, in reality!), only four moved into the house.  The oldest decided she needed to stay where she was.  We love her, we support her, and we miss her.  Thank God for cell phones.

So, almost exactly a year after the initiating discussion, we all joined together for a family supper.  Where once was an adult family of five now sat a growing, changing, evolving group of—nine? ten? twelve? thirteen?  It depends.  Wait.  Listen to that.  Hear that word drop into reality.  It depends.  Family depends.

Our four-year-old blur (who has grown into a radiant five year old tornado) depends.  Our little princess (who is quite the adventurer) depends.  Our sports fanatic (the football-loving brother Jeff hoped for) depends.  Our tenacious, mature, beautiful sixteen-year-old (with a smile that can move mountains) depends.  Our long-distance sister (a strong and irreplaceable young woman) depends.  My parents—generous, sacrificial—depend.  My big brother and his new wife, my little sister and her might-as-well-be-family boyfriend, and Jeff and I—we depend.  We are Christ-leaners.  We depend on daily grace.  We depend on family.  And we have learned that family extends far past the walls of our Texas home.

It’s been a beautiful road of boy scouts, knee surgeries, birthday parties for everyone, and Christmases to last a lifetime.  It’s been a painful road of uncertainty, exhaustion, and throbbing growth.  It’s been a journey towards dependence.

----

This Friday morning, February 24, we go to the courthouse to become a lawful family.  Best Day Ever.  Praise be to God.  Photos will most likely follow.

Our family is thrilled to share this set of moments with you!  If you'd like, please feel welcome to share your love with us through comments on this blog.  If you'd prefer to contact my parents directly, thank you!--However, as the next couple days are going to be a bit crazy, I would ask that you wait until the weekend is over to share your mutual celebration with them.  All our love to you and yours.

Casting Call

Guys.

Guys.  Seriously.  I am so excited.

I have a few favorites.  My pups.  Cookie dough.  The smell of WD40 (I know, I know.  I avoid this one).  Chubby rolls on babies.  And...senior portraits.  Oh my gosh.  Favorite.

And so I present...a CASTING CALL for Senior Reps!

Basically, I'm looking for a few local young men and young women to represent me in their schools for the 2012-2013 school year.  They will get to get a STYLIZED shoot (meaning: hair. makeup. coordinated clothing with location. the works.) along with a package of beautiful prints, and the opportunity to recruit for BE Photography.  It's the best.  And it's free.  And there is a reward system for referrals as well.

Total potential value of this sweet deal:  $450!!

Email me by March 31 with the above information in order to be considered!  Picks will be selected by the end of April.

Guys.  I'm so excited.

Brag

My family is the best, ever.  More on that later.

Here's something you should check out on this dreamy Saturday morning.  Then, get off the computer and go outside for Pete's sake!

This is my cousin Danae.  I think I haven't seen her since I was about eight.  But don't worry, we're soul sisters. She has more videos.  I suggest subscription.

Aaron + Aleigha = ENGAGED

Hip hip horray, they're getting MARRIED!

We went to the NYLO to shoot their engagements, and I dare say a grand time was had by all...even Aaron, a self-proclaimed hater of photo-taking!  The natural love between these two was incredibly evident the whole time we were shooting, and I am so excited for their wedding next month!  The whole shindig is going to be at the NYLO, which was exciting to me when Aleigha told me at our initial meeting--but then yesterday I saw the NYLO staff setting up for a wedding, and I swear I almost wet my pants.  It is going to be so stinkin beautiful and classy and unbelievable.  Just wait.  Just you wait.

I'm not normally into silhouettes, but the polka dots are just too flirty to resist!

Aren't they just too stinkin' adorable??
Gah.

Change is a'comin'!!

That's right, folks.  Portraits starting at $180 and weddings starting at $775 are soon to be a thing of the past.

Don't worry, though.  I'm not just adding on dollar signs and zeros and stuff arbitrarily.  I am bettering myself and my equipment and increasing the value of my product.  This is natural growth for this type of business, and I hope you are excited to take this journey with me!

That all being said, you have just a few weeks to jump on the old prices!!  March 1, 2012, things will be different.  For. Ev. Er.

Anything booked before that time will be subject to current prices.  So...go go go!!  :)

Travis and Heather | Love

Between locations, Travis and I found ourselves inside a Chik-fil-A making small talk while Heather was changing clothes.  I grew up with Heather but was just meeting Travis, and wanted to know more about this lucky guy who has managed to sweep such a gem of a girl off her feet.  I asked him several questions and eventually got to his work.  He's in sales, it's fine, he likes it but doesn't know how long-term it is.  I followed up by asking him what he wants to do with the rest of his life.

"All I know is I want to marry Heather."

Perfect.

Weddings

So psyched.  Met with a bride, groom, and mother-of-the bride yesterday.  A quick 30 minute meet-and-greet style meeting quickly turned into a 2 hour event that ended with them sitting on my couch at our house!  I am so blessed.  That wedding will come in May, and I have every confidence that it is going to be a beautiful, blessed occasion.  We're a good match for each other--something huge when you're looking for a photographer, especially a wedding photographer.

In other news, I have a sweet awesome engagement session coming up this weekend.  It is going to involve romance, trees, and ice cream.  Don't be jealous, that's how we roll in the 903.

Want in on this action?  Give me a holla.  I'm halfway full for the spring.  Not to brag.  But yeah.

Feeling good

My goal is to throw myself into the place I'm in, while I'm there.

No more checking business email at school.  No sirree.

No more shooting on Sundays.  Nope.

No more wishing for wishes and wondering why wishes wist away.

Much more eye contact.

Much more careful precision.

Much more prayer.

Thanks for listening.
