Simon Family

No time like a family reunion for a few family photos!  Really though...there isn't.  It's perfect.

When I married ol' Jeffy, I married into a fantastic family.  We got to see a bunch of those folks when we went up to Pennsylvania this weekend for the annual family reunion.  There are several younger cousins, but these girls were the only ones who were able to make it this year.  Let me tell ya--I. Love. Them.  Precious.  And their parents are too!!  Check it out.

Aren't they beautiful?

Whoa, how did crazy cousin Jeff sneak in there?!

Fifteen years for these two!  Are you kidding me?!  So happy.

SO wonderful to see everyone.  I say, trip to Texas in 2014!

Emily | Senior

I had an Instagram contest several months ago, and my former student Emily walked away with one of the prizes--a free photo session, with all the bells and whistles!

We had a couple different custom hairpieces made for her (Jan Barstad of Thistle Floral Design.  She also did Eden's flowers.  She is fabulous).  Also, we went to the amazing Tara O'Bannon at Exceptions Salon (she's styled most of my girls since the beginning of last summer) for hair and makeup.  Emily also brought along a friend to help her pick out outfits, as well as keep her comfortable and laughing.

**Please read this next part**

I know that senior photos feel expensive enough, so the idea of professional hair and makeup and flowers and ohmy! can be overwhelming, but hear me out.  The gift of accentuating your daughter's beauty is a huge confidence builder, and helps make the experience just that--an experience, rather than just a few digital files.  There is no part of me that wants to be a part of the "you must be beautiful to have influence or attention" fever that most of our teenage girls suffer from, but at the same time, I recognize that God created beauty, and we often have a hard time seeing that beauty when we look in the mirror.  I believe in the vitality of teaching our daughters how to shine.

Therefore, I take pride in working to make sure that the seniors I photograph gain confidence and self-respect both during and after our time together.  That means we keep it classy and feminine, yet hone in on her natural glow to showcase her truest self--the girl you have loved since day one.  I don't have a daughter, but hopefully I will one day, and I want her to always know that her face, her body, and her soul are beautiful and hand-crafted.

I love that many of my seniors get to feel a professional beautician preen over them for over an hour before I coo and cluck for several more.  When else does your daughter get such individualized, positive attention?  As a high school teacher, I can tell you--even for the most popular girl, not at school.  I believe that this experience--time spent in front of two of her harshest critics (the mirror and then the camera) with incredibly positive results--is one that can overpower the inevitable negativities she has encountered, hopefully leaving her with touchable proof (ahemalwaysprintyourphotoscough) of who she truly is--who you've seen all along.  Don't you want your little girl to see herself the way you see her?

So, if the bonus beauty treatment is something your daughter wants...and she understands that she doesn't need it to be beautiful; she is so beloved that you'd love to give her a treat...I say, it's worth the extra.

Whew.

So, without any further ado...I present to you, beautiful, beautiful Emily.

Shadden Family

Earlier this month, I had the privilege of hanging out with four generations of the Shadden family at their home here in Grayson County.  We had so much fun, climbing over tractors and into saddles, hiding in the grass and trying to find the "bug" in my camera!  Here are just a couple of my favorite shots from that day--the grandkids!

Wedding!!

So, I'm not a wedding photographer.  I've had a few gracious and incredible couples who have let me try my hand at it, and I loved those weddings.  I also learned throughout the processes that I'm just not gifted in that direction, and I would much rather recommend some of my ridiculously talented friends to take care of all the weddings in the whole world.

HOWEVER.

My cousin got married last weekend, and I had so, so, so much fun getting a few shots at his wedding!  Lesson to be learned?  Extremism is not for me.  Weddings aren't sworn off entirely.  Once a year...at a cousin's wedding...in Colorado...with the most good-looking people ever...it's definitely doable.  :)

Also, my wonderful brother got a great photo of my sweet husband and me!  Gosh, I love Jeff.  He is so good looking.  Am I right?!

Gotta keep moving.  My little sister is getting MARRIED on Saturday!!  So much to do, so little time!

Mast family + maternity

If you're a loyal reader of this blog, you will probably recognize the Mast family!  I've gotten to photograph them a few times now, and I swear, they all just keep getting better and better looking.  They are expecting a baby boy this summer, and so we took the opportunity to get a few family photos (nothing better than baseball themed!) and also some maternity photos of Breanne.  Side note:  I sent her a text asking if she had any flowing, ethereal dresses, and she said no...and then she made this one.  Are you kidding me?!  I want that kind of talent!

Libby | Melissa High School | Senior 2013

So, I literally remember when Libby was born.  Well, maybe not the moment she was born...but I do remember talking to her cousin about the new baby who would be born and take all the cuteness and attention in the family!  Crazy, right?!  Gah, I'm getting old.  But I digress.

Libby is a beautiful senior, and the oldest sister in a wonderful family.  I was so excited to get to hang out with Libby and her momma on an incredibly windy day here in north Texas.  Speaking of North Texas, that's the university Libby will be attending in the fall!  See how I did that?  SMOOTH.

Anyhow.  Here's Libby!

Baleigh | Senior 2013

Baleigh is a champ.  She and her mother met me at 7am to take these photos--just a couple hours before she left to go to the state track meet on a school trip!  Talk about an easy going, fun-loving girl who doesn't stress about the small stuff.  I'm grateful I was given the opportunity to photograph this gorgeous girl--and be looking for her in the future, because I have got to get this beautiful face to model for me a little more.
